Fruit Bus Stops (Tokimeki Fruit Bus Stop Street)

Sixteen bus shelters shaped like fruit stand along Route 207 through the Konagai district of Isahaya, in five varieties — strawberry, melon, mikan, watermelon and tomato. They were built by the former town of Konagai for the 1990 Nagasaki Travel Exposition, meant to soften the arrival for visitors coming in at what was then the prefecture gateway, and the design was taken from the pumpkin carriage in Cinderella. The road they stand on is now nicknamed Tokimeki Fruit Bus Stop Street. They are working shelters rather than an attraction with an entrance: red Nagasaki prefectural buses still call at them, and the prefecture suggests timing a photograph for a bus. The verge changes through the year — rapeseed in spring, sunflowers in summer, cosmos in autumn. NOTE: the sixteen are spread along a stretch of road, so the pin here is the single representative point the prefecture publishes, not the location of all of them.

They stand along Route 207 in the Konagai district of Isahaya, on the road running north-east from Isahaya towards Saga. Red Nagasaki Kenei buses serve the route, so the shelters can be reached by bus as well as by car.
