Shimeiso Spring Garden

湧水庭園四明荘

Nagasaki · Kyushu

A traditional Meiji-era villa and Japanese garden in Shimabara's Shinmachi district, built over a natural spring releasing roughly 3,000 tons of crystal-clear water a day into a koi-filled pond.

Why we picked it

It's a short walk from Shimabara Castle but overshadowed by the castle itself, so the tranquil garden and its resident koi rarely feel crowded.
