Ishikawa · Chubu
A hillside of over a thousand hand-farmed rice paddies stepping down to the Sea of Japan near Wajima, among Japan's most celebrated terraced landscapes and a World Agricultural Heritage site. The January 2024 earthquake damaged the terraces and the slope below them; restoration has been partial and a reduced number of paddies has been planted in the seasons since.
