A Shinto shrine in Aoba Ward built between 1604 and 1607 on the orders of Date Masamune to enshrine the clan's guardian deity Hachiman. Its lavishly gilded and lacquered main hall is a designated National Treasure and one of the finest surviving examples of early-Edo gongen-zukuri architecture.
