Senshu Park (Kubota Castle Ruins)

千秋公園(久保田城跡)

Akita · Tohoku

A 16.29-hectare castle park in central Akita City on the site of Kubota Castle, seat of the Satake clan (1602-1869); it features the reconstructed Osumi-yagura corner turret, the Omonogashira Goban-sho guardhouse (the only surviving Edo-period building on site), the Satake Historical Museum and the old moats. Roughly 700 cherry trees fill the grounds and bloom in late April.

Why we picked it
