Manai Falls
真名井の滝Miyazaki · Kyushu
A 17-meter waterfall that plunges directly off the columnar basalt cliffs into the emerald Gokase River, forming the iconic centerpiece of Takachiho Gorge. It is designated one of Japan's Top 100 Waterfalls, and the classic view is from a rental rowboat gliding along its base. On summer evenings the falls are lit up after dark.

- Free — the ~1 km Takachiho Gorge walkway (with the Manai Falls viewing deck) has no admission. The rowing boats that get you to the base of the falls are extra: ¥4,100 per boat (Tue–Thu) / ¥5,100 (Fri–Mon, holidays, peak periods), online reservation only. PARKING is charged 8:00–17:00: ¥1,000 (Mioi/Araragi lots), ¥800 (Ohashi), ¥500 (Oshikata); free at night.
