A 1933 wooden reconstruction of the original mountaintop castle keep, perched 230m above Gujo Hachiman's old town with panoramic views over the valley — one of the oldest surviving wooden reconstructions in Japan. On autumn mornings a sea of clouds can fill the valley below, producing the castle's famous 'castle in the sky' photographs.
