Akita City Folk Performing Arts Heritage Center

秋田市民俗芸能伝承館(ねぶり流し館)

Akita · Tohoku

A museum in central Akita City dedicated to the Akita Kanto Matsuri, displaying full-size kanto poles hung with dozens of lit paper lanterns, festival artifacts, and video of the pole-balancing technique. Sits in the historic Kawabata district next to the Akita Red Brick Museum.

Why we picked it

Akita City is usually treated as a transit hub for Nyuto Onsen/Tazawa-ko, so this small heritage hall is skipped even by visitors who catch the August street festival.
