Sugao Waterfall

菅生の滝

Fukuoka · Kyushu

A three-tiered waterfall in the forested upper reaches of the Murasaki River, whose top drop of about 30 meters makes it the tallest cascade in Kitakyushu. Cool mist and a shaded pool make it a favorite local escape from the summer heat.

Why it's hidden

Tucked into national forest up a narrow valley in Kokuraminami Ward, it is known mainly to local residents and almost never seen by foreign visitors.
