Five interconnected lakes of differing salinity and depth inside Wakasa Bay Quasi-National Park, each showing a subtly different water color. The Rainbow Line toll road climbs Mt. Baijōdake to a 360-degree summit park with a floating terrace overlooking all five lakes and the Sea of Japan. Lake Suigetsu is also internationally known among geologists for its annually-banded sediment core used as a global dating reference.
Usual hours — confirm with the official site for holidays + seasonal closures.
How to get there
~15 min taxi from JR Mihama Station to the Rainbow Line first parking lot, then lift/cable car (~2 min) to the summit park. Toll road open 8:00-18:00.
