Yamamizuki Open-Air Waterfall Bath

Yamamizuki Open-Air Waterfall Bath

山みず木 露天風呂

Kumamoto · Kyushu

An upscale ryokan on the eastern edge of Kurokawa Onsen known for its spacious open-air bath fed by a small cascading waterfall and set among dense forest, regularly cited by Japanese travel media as one of the most photogenic rotenburo in the entire onsen town. Best timed for spring (fresh greenery, Apr-May) and autumn foliage (Nov) frame the waterfall particularly well.

Why we picked it

Sits at the quieter eastern fringe of the onsen village, well away from the crowded baths in the centre — a riverside open-air bath that day-bathers rarely walk out far enough to find.
