垂玉温泉

Kumamoto · Kyushu

A remote hydrogen-sulfide hot spring on the western slope of Aso's central cones, centered on a single historic ryokan (Yamaguchiya) that has operated an open-air bath beside the cascading Kinryu Falls for over a century.

Why we picked it

A rare waterfall-side open-air bath tucked inside the Aso caldera, overlooked by travellers who head straight for the far better-known onsen towns of Kurokawa and Uchinomaki.
