Fukuoka · Kyushu
An Edo-period shrine founded in 1632 by the Fukuoka domain, built over a sacred cave tumulus known as Iwato-gu where a divine spirit is said to have appeared. The worship hall and main hall sit in an unusual layout in front of the covered burial mound; the inner cave is opened to worshippers only on July 2 each year.
