Myoban Onsen (Yunohana Huts)

明礬温泉(湯の花小屋)

Oita · Kyushu

Beppu's highest-elevation hot spring district, famous for its cluster of triangular thatched-roof yunohana-goya huts, where sulfur-rich bath salts are still harvested from natural steam vents using a method unchanged since the Edo period, designated an Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property in 2006.

Why we picked it

A genuinely distinct highland onsen district that generators currently skip in favor of the Kannawa hells cluster.
