The Hiroshi Senju Museum Karuizawa holds a permanent collection of work by the Nihonga painter Hiroshi Senju, including the large waterfall paintings he is best known for. The single-storey building, designed by Ryue Nishizawa and completed in 2011, follows the original slope of the ground so the gallery floor rises and falls, and planted courtyards are cut through the interior behind curved glass. The museum closes for the winter from 26 December until the end of February.
