Takayama Inari Shrine

高山稲荷神社

Aomori · Tohoku

A shrine near the Tsugaru coast famous for its winding tunnel of over 200 vermillion torii gates leading through a garden with fox statues (kitsune, messengers of Inari), especially striking with a light dusting of snow.

Why we picked it

Aomori's answer to Kyoto's Fushimi Inari, but remote enough (an hour from Goshogawara by bus and taxi) that it stays quiet even in peak season.
