Central park built on the ruins of Yamagata Castle, founded 1357 by Mogami clan ancestor and rebuilt in 1592 by Mogami Yoshiaki; reconstructed Ninomaru Higashi Otemon gate (1991) and Honmaru Ichimonji-mon gate area, plus the Yamagata Museum of Art and Mogami Yoshiaki Historical Museum inside the grounds. Also one of Yamagata's top cherry-blossom spots (roughly 1,500 trees).
