Miyazaki · Kyushu
A narrow, roughly 7km-long river canyon carved by the Gokase River through layered columnar basalt, with sheer cliffs up to 80-100m high. The main highlight is the 17m Manai Falls, one of Japan's Top 100 Waterfalls, which visitors can approach by rowboat or view from the Otome Bridge walking path above. Best timed for spring (fresh greenery) and autumn (foliage, mid-Nov peak); also illuminated some evenings in summer.
Usual hours — confirm with the official site for holidays + seasonal closures.
