Ishinami Beach

Ishinami Beach

石波海岸

Miyazaki · Kyushu

A roughly 1km arc of unspoiled white-sand beach in Kushima backed by subtropical coastal forest, designated a national natural monument and listed among Japan's 100 Best Beaches, with nesting loggerhead sea turtles.

Why we picked it

Far south of the main Nichinan tourist strip near Cape Toi, with no train station and only a few local buses a day, it stays nearly empty even in summer.

How to get there

By car, about 15-20 min south of Nango on Route 448 toward Cape Toi; a Miyazaki Kotsu bus stop called 'Ishinami' also serves the beach (roughly 50 min from Kushima Station by bus).
