Lake Izunuma
伊豆沼Miyagi · Tohoku
Lake Izunuma is a shallow freshwater lake on the plain between Kurihara and Tome in northern Miyagi, registered under the Ramsar Convention in 1985 together with the adjoining Lake Uchinuma. It is one of Japan's most important wintering grounds for geese and swans, and a prefectural sanctuary centre stands on the shore with exhibits and observation windows over the water. Lotus spreads across much of the lake surface in summer, when small boats run out through the leaves.
