Kokura Castle

小倉城

Fukuoka · Kyushu

A reconstructed 17th-century castle keep (built 1602 by Hosokawa Tadaoki, rebuilt 1959) in central Kitakyushu, with an adjoining Edo-period strolling garden and Yasaka Shrine on the grounds.

Why we picked it

Kitakyushu is bypassed by nearly all international visitors, who fly into Hakata and never go north; despite being a nationally significant castle it draws a fraction of Kumamoto/Osaka Castle's crowds.; Undisputed #1 landmark of Kitakyushu.
