Iwatake is a standalone rounded peak in the middle of the Hakuba Valley, which gives it something the ridge resorts do not — a 360-degree panorama taking in the whole Northern Alps wall from the summit plateau. The skiing is mostly gentle to intermediate on both the east and west faces, making it the valley's easiest mountain for families and early intermediates, and the summit carries the Hakuba Mountain Harbor deck and cafe looking straight at the Shirouma range. Lifts usually run from mid-December into early April, with dates set by snowfall; in summer the same gondola serves a mountain-bike park and the view deck.
