Wajima Kiriko Art Museum

The Wajima Kiriko Art Museum has been closed since the January 2024 Noto Peninsula earthquake and cannot be visited on a walk-in basis — the building and around 32 of its giant kiriko lantern floats were damaged, and as of mid-2026 no reopening date is in sight. The museum normally displays the towering illuminated kiriko carried through Noto's summer festivals, some over ten metres tall, in a hall built to their scale. For now the only access is a pre-booked group tour of roughly two and a half hours that pairs the kiriko with the burnt morning-market area and the earthquake-uplifted coastline. Check directly before planning around it.
