Nagasaki · Kyushu
Omura Park is laid out over the ruins of Kushima Castle on a low rise above Omura Bay, with the stone ramparts, moats and two reconstructed gates still standing among the lawns. Itakura Shrine sits inside the old bailey, and the walk around the water takes about half an hour. The castle was the seat of the Omura clan, whose lord became the first Japanese daimyo to be baptised, which is why the town carries so much early Christian history.
