板屋川のホタル is a stretch of the small Itayagawa river in Gifu City's Saigo district, where Genji fireflies typically begin appearing from late May and dance in numbers through their June peak — best viewed 8-9pm. The local Saigo Firefly Festival (西郷ほたるまつり) runs on weekends through the season, organised out of the Saigo Community Centre.
