Beppu Tower

別府タワー

Oita · Kyushu

A 90m Showa-era observation tower completed in 1957, designed by the same firm behind Tokyo Tower, standing in central Beppu near the Kitahama waterfront. Its 55m-high observation deck gives 360-degree views over Beppu Bay, the steam-wreathed city below, and surrounding mountains.

Why we picked it

A 1957 Showa-era tower, one of Japan's oldest, with an observation deck a few minutes' walk from Beppu Station — a short, cheap city viewpoint rather than a destination in itself.
