Amakusa Gokyo (Five Bridges) — Senganzan Viewpoint

天草五橋・千巌山展望所

Kumamoto · Kyushu

The 12km chain of five bridges (Amakusa Gokyo, opened 1966) that links mainland Kyushu to the Amakusa Islands across Matsushima Bay. The Senganzan observation deck (162m) above Maeshima Bridge is the classic viewpoint for photographing the bridges threading between the bay's small islands — ranked among Japan's "Top 100 Sunsets."

Why it's hidden

A defining Amakusa landmark, but most visitors just drive across the bridges without ever stopping at the overlook that shows the whole chain at once.
