Murakami House

Murakami House is a gassho-zukuri farmhouse in the Kaminashi hamlet of Gokayama that is open to the public as a folk museum. The building dates from roughly 350 years ago and was designated a National Important Cultural Property in 1958; the interior displays tools used for silkworm raising, saltpetre production and paper making. The owner gives a spoken explanation of the house and its trades, and performs the kokiriko dance for visitors. The house closes from 15 December to the end of February.
