Ryotanji Temple (Hamamatsu)

Ryotanji Temple (Hamamatsu)

龍潭寺

Shizuoka · Chubu

The family temple of the Ii clan in the hills north of Hamamatsu, holding a pond-and-stone garden laid out by Kobori Enshu that is viewed from the hondo veranda and changes completely between the moss of early summer and the maples of November. The Ii graves stand in the grove behind.

Why it's hidden

It is in Inasa, well off the city grid, and most people who have heard of it came from a television drama rather than a guidebook.
