Kakita River Park
柿田川公園Shizuoka · Chubu
柿田川 is, at 1.2 km, Japan's shortest Class-1 river — fed almost entirely by Mount Fuji's snowmelt surfacing through a series of circular spring pools (湧き間) inside the park, at a near-constant 15°C year-round. It is one of Japan's 'Three Clear-Flowing Rivers', a designated National Natural Monument (2011) and a Ministry of the Environment 名水百選 (Top 100 Waters) site, and the clarity and stable temperature support 94 families and 281 species of riverside life, Genji fireflies among them.
