Osu Kannon Temple & Osu Shopping District

大須観音・大須商店街

Aichi · Chubu

This vividly painted Buddhist temple, relocated to Nagoya in 1612 by order of Tokugawa Ieyasu, holds one of Japan's largest collections of rare classical texts. It sits at the entrance to the Osu Shopping District, a sprawling maze of 1,200+ covered arcades mixing century-old kimono shops, anime and retro-gaming stores, and street food stalls.

Why we picked it

Not a hidden gem — Osu is Nagoya's most-visited retail and temple district and matters as the city's most walkable blend of living Buddhist devotion and everyday commercial energy.
