Nakatajima Sand Dunes
中田島砂丘Shizuoka · Chubu
One of Japan's three large coastal dune fields, running along the Enshu shore south of Hamamatsu where the Tenryu River's sand meets a hard onshore wind that combs the surface into ridges. Loggerhead turtles come ashore to nest here between May and August, and the beach is roped off around the nests.
