Chojasan Shinra Shrine
長者山新羅神社Aomori · Tohoku
A hilltop shrine in central Hachinohe founded in 1678 by Nanbu Naomasa, the second lord of the Hachinohe domain, as a guardian shrine for his territory. Its main hall and worship hall are designated prefectural treasures for their Edo-period carving and joinery, and the approach climbs a long flight of steps from the surrounding streets. The shrine is one of the three that jointly stage the Hachinohe Sansha Taisai float festival, and it hosts the dedication dance of the Hachinohe Enburi on 17 February each year.
