A flat shelf of uplifted bedrock along the Sea of Japan, created when the 1792 Kansei earthquake raised the seabed into a 'thousand-tatami-mat' rock platform stretching to the waterline. Part of Tsugaru Quasi-National Park, known for sunset views and tide pools.
