A chain of roughly 30 volcanic ponds at the foot of Mt. Bandai, formed by the catastrophic 1888 eruption. Mineral content gives each pond a distinct, shifting hue — from cobalt blue to reddish-green — along a roughly 4km walking trail between Bishamonnuma and Lake Hibara.
Usual hours — confirm with the official site for holidays + seasonal closures.
How to get there
Bandai Toto bus from Inawashiro Station to Goshikinuma Iriguchi (~25-30 min, ~¥790), trailhead at the east entrance.
