A wild cove on the Pacific side of southern Amami Oshima (Setouchi) where the beach is paved not with sand but with countless egg-shaped stones rounded smooth by the surf. Waves draw the stones back with a distinctive rattling roar, and local lore forbids taking any home. Steep cliffs and a rock arch frame the bay.
