Hakuzuruhama Beach

白鶴浜海水浴場

Kumamoto · Kyushu

A 1.3km crescent of white sand and clear turquoise water on Amakusa's west coast, near Takahama village — rated among Japan's finest beaches, with calm swimming, surfing breaks, and sunset views over the East China Sea. Typhoon season runs roughly June to October, and a passing storm can cancel ferries, flights and all marine activity across the islands at a day's notice — check the forecast before you rely on this stop.

Why it's hidden

A genuinely beautiful beach that rarely appears on first-time Amakusa itineraries, which tend to focus on the Christian heritage sites further south.
