The Oiwake-juku Museum of Local History stands in Oiwake, the westernmost of the three Nakasendo post towns that lie within Karuizawa. Its displays cover the highway's post-station system, the inns and packhorse trade that supported it, and daily life along the route. Admission also covers the nearby Hori Tatsuo Literary Memorial Hall, and the old post-town street outside can be walked at any time.
