Kumamoto · Kyushu
A grass-covered basalt pyroclastic cone, formed roughly 3,500 years ago, and the most accessible of the Aso Five Peaks, with a paved and well-maintained trail from the Kusasenri parking area reaching the summit crater rim in about 35-40 minutes. The summit loop circles an old crater and gives direct views down into the active Nakadake crater area to the east, plus the Kusasenri grassland below.
How to get there
~26 min by Sanko Bus to Kusasenri Aso Kazan Hakubutsukan-mae stop, then ~40 min on foot to the summit via the east trailhead.
