Kaikoen (Komoro Castle Ruins)
小諸城址 懐古園Nagano · Chubu
Kaikoen is the walled site of Komoro Castle, laid out below the level of the town it defended rather than above it, which is unusual among Japanese castles. Stone ramparts, the Sannomon gate and the deep ravines that formed its natural defences remain, and the grounds hold a town museum, a small zoo and a memorial hall to the poet Shimazaki Toson. The park entrance is beside Komoro Station.
