Kushihiki Hachimangu
櫛引八幡宮Aomori · Tohoku
The head tutelary shrine of the Nanbu clan, whose lands covered southern Aomori and northern Iwate, standing in a wooded precinct in southwest Hachinohe. Its National Treasure Hall displays 25 designated cultural properties, including two Kamakura- and Nanbokucho-period suits of armour that are National Treasures, with audio guidance in Japanese and English. The main shrine buildings are themselves designated Important Cultural Properties. The Treasure Hall is closed on Wednesdays and Thursdays, though it also opens on Thursdays during the August holiday period.
