Fukushima · Tohoku
An open-air museum in eastern Aizuwakamatsu built around a full-scale reconstruction of the 38-room residence of Saigo Tanomo, chief retainer of the Aizu domain. The grounds also hold relocated period buildings including a water-powered rice mill and a magistrate’s office, with rooms furnished to show samurai household life. It sits on the road between the castle and Higashiyama Onsen. Hours are slightly shorter from December to March.
