A secluded mountain hamlet just outside Imari that served as the Nabeshima clan's guarded, exclusive official kiln (1675-1871), producing porcelain exclusively for the shogunate and imperial court. ~30 working pottery studios line narrow lanes overlooked by dramatic crags; designated a National Historic Site in 2003.
