Daikanbo Viewpoint (Mount Aso)

大観峰

Kumamoto · Kyushu

Daikanbo is the lookout on the northern rim of the Aso caldera, taking in the central peaks of Aso and the ring of crater wall around them. There is no scheduled public transport to it: reaching it means car or taxi, roughly 25 minutes up from JR Aso Station, and the Aso crater shuttle bus serves Nakadake on the opposite side of the caldera, not here. Parking and entry are free, and the viewpoint is open at all hours.

Why we picked it

Many travelers focus on the more popular attractions in Aso, overlooking this stunning viewpoint.
