Atami Plum Garden is a terraced hillside garden on the edge of Atami, laid out in 1886 around a stream crossed by small arched bridges, with a teahouse, a footbath fed by the local hot spring and a hall relocated from a Meiji-era villa. Its roughly 470 plum trees of sixty varieties flower in sequence from late November through to early March, the earliest plum display in Japan, and its maples turn in late autumn.
