Amano Yasukawara

天安河原

Miyazaki · Kyushu

A riverside cave, also called Gyoubogaiwaya, roughly 500m upstream along the Iwato River from Amanoiwato Shrine's west sanctuary. Japanese mythology holds this is where the eight million deities gathered to plan how to lure Amaterasu out of hiding; visitors now stack small river stones here to make wishes.

Why we picked it

A foot-access-only mythological site tucked along a riverside trail rather than at the main shrine building.
