Shika Island

志賀島

Fukuoka · Kyushu

Shikanoshima is a small island 11 km around, connected to the Fukuoka mainland by the scenic Umi no Nakamichi causeway. It is where the Gold Seal of the King of Na — a 2,000-year-old national treasure granted by Han China — was unearthed in 1784, now held at Fukuoka City Museum. The island is home to Shikaumi Shrine and quiet fishing-village lanes off the main coast road, with views across Hakata Bay in every direction.

Why it's hidden

Most visitors circle the island quickly by car and miss the small lanes.
