Kakunodate Bukeyashiki is a street of well-preserved samurai residences in Akita, several open to visitors, offering a direct glimpse into Japan's feudal past through traditional architecture and enclosed gardens. Dark wooden walls and wide eaves line the old quarter year-round. The weeping cherry trees that overhang those walls are the town's signature sight in late April.

The samurai-district street is free to walk, and three houses are free to enter: 岩橋家, 旧松本家, 小田野家. Three charge admission (adults): 青柳家 ¥500 (jr-high/high school ¥300, elementary ¥200); 石黒家 ¥500 (high school and up; elementary/jr-high ¥300); 河原田家 ¥500 (high school and up; elementary/jr-high ¥300). 青柳家 and 石黒家 open year-round with no closing days — 青柳家 9:00–17:00, closing 16:30 from December to March. Some of the smaller houses keep shorter or seasonal hours, so check individually in winter.
