Ishigaki's flagship stargazing festival: the whole island dims its lights so visitors can take in the Milky Way and all 88 constellations from one of Japan's darkest skies. The free 'Evening Cool Live & Observation' at Minami-no-hama Ryokuchi Park pairs a concert (Okinawan band BEGIN) with telescope viewing, a special VERA 20m radio-telescope opening, planetarium screenings and observatory tours.
