Hiroshima · Chugoku
A UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage rice-planting ritual in Kitahiroshima Town, held on the first Sunday of June. Dozens of cattle in elaborately decorated saddles are led to a sacred rice field, where colorfully dressed saotome plant seedlings by hand while singing rice-planting songs to the beat of drums, flutes and clappers. One of Japan's most spectacular agricultural festivals.
